The 2022 China International Travel Mart (CITM) will take place at Kunming Dianchi Lake International Convention and Exhibition Center in Kunming, capital of the southwestern Yunnan province, from July 22-24.

A press conference on the three-day event was held in Beijing on June 23, with representatives from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism (MCT), Yunnan Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism and Beijing Sunny International Communications Corporation Ltd. introducing the event and taking questions from the media.

Co-hosted by the MCT, Civil Aviation Administration of China and Yunnan provincial government, the CITM will be held both online and in-person under the theme of "Intelligent Innovation Towards the Future: For the High-Quality Development of Tourism." It aims to explore a path of high-quality development for the culture and tourism industry, shed light on emerging trends and characteristics of the market, boost the industry's overall recovery and continuous growth, and further unleash the potential of culture and tourism consumption.

With an exhibition area of roughly 70,000 square meters, the CITM is expected to welcome participants from over 70 countries and regions as well as from 31 provincial-level regions across China, and more than 200 culture and tourism institutions and enterprises. Multiple exhibition areas will be established, covering culture and tourism images, healthy living destinations, sports tourism, smart tourism, overseas tourism and other industry segments.

This edition of CITM will be more innovative and inclusive. It will host a forum for smart tourism innovation and development and a related exhibition area offering smart solutions to boost the high-quality development of tourism through science and technology. The event will also bring products, buyers and viewers into one space to provide customers with immersive experiences to facilitate trade.

The exhibition areas have also been optimized. Forums and conferences will be conducted within the themed exhibition areas so that participants can enjoy both the CITM and distinctive services. Apart from the in-person events, online displays and negotiations as well as event livestreaming and video and voice calls will also be available for participants around the world to create a better experience and boost turnover.

A new area for museums will be established during the event. The Palace Museum and National Museum of China together with provincial and municipal museums including ones from Shaanxi, Henan and Wuhan have expressed their intention to participate. This is conducive to preserving and carrying forward cultural heritage, telling China's stories well, and facilitating Sino-foreign cultural exchanges.

The CITM will provide a range of activities over the three-day period, such as promotional conferences on the culture and tourism of Yunnan and other provinces, a summit on China-Laos Railway and the building of anAsian community with a shared future, investment attracting and signing activities for major cultural tourism programs, and live performances.

Preparations for the CITM 2022 are currently underway, with pandemic controls remaining a priority throughout the process.
